Old Orchard Rooftop Plaza Restoration

WGI initially became involved in this project as a Forensic Expert. Through our inspection, numerous inadequacies in the plaza design were identified that resulted in premature failure of the plaza system, leaking, and the failure of the precast façade panel anchorages on all sides of the structure.

WGI designed and implemented a restoration program to replace the entire rooftop plaza system. The new system included bonded perimeter curbs and walls to provide necessary anchorage for the façade panels and meet vehicular impact load requirements. Provisions for enhanced drainage, thermal expansion, and transition waterproofing were also incorporated to provide a durable and reliable waterproofing solution.

The retail spaces below needed to be maintained in operation during the performance of the work. The design also incorporated provisions for phasing of the waterproofing to provide continuous protection of the spaces during construction.
