The Painesville Municipal Parking Garage, which was constructed in 1973, is located at East Washington Street and St. Clair Street in Painesville. The parking garage is a two-bay structure composed of seven staggered parking levels where two levels are on grade and five are elevated. The garage levels to the north (even-numbered) are ramped, and the levels to the south (odd-numbered) are flat. Traffic flow throughout the garage is 2-way; parking stalls are provided at a 90-degree angle. The structural system consists of precast concrete (columns, girders, and beams). The floor structure, which spans north to south, consists of precast prestressed double tees with a 2-inch thick bonded cast-in-place concrete topping slab.Â
WGI performed a condition appraisal of the parking garage to review the garage’s condition, make recommendations for repair and maintenance, and perform a life cycle analysis for the garage. At the City of Painesville’s request, all options presented included a minimum life expectancy of 20 years. Our review focused on identifying deterioration and damage to the concrete structure and waterproofing systems. We produced a report complete with findings, conclusions, and restoration recommendations. Following our evaluation, WGI was retained to perform design, bidding, and construction administration services for immediate repairs. The project is currently under construction.Â
