S-169W-MS and S-169 Demolition

Project Manatee Barrier and Trash Rake at S-169W: The project encompasses the construction of a new manatee barrier with two mechanical trash rakes. The work includes sheet pile wall, concrete wall cap, armament, concrete walkway on piles, site grading, and concrete trash pit. All work within the C-21 channel will be in the wet.

S-169 Demolition Project: The project is in Hendry County near the City of Clewiston’s Boat Ramp park accessible from US 27 and Franscico Street. The S-169 structure is a gated culvert on the C-21 Canal which is adjacent to and south of the Herbert Hoover Dike around Lake Okeechobee. The project is to demolish and dispose of debris at the S-169 bridge. The following elements shall be demolished: structure (gated culvert), control building, stilling wells, and associated features including pilings, pavement, curb, utility poles, underground conduit, underground grounding, electrical equipment, and fencing. This project also includes reshaping of the canal bank, and installation of rip rap along the canal bank between the existing Clewiston boat ramps and the new Clewiston bridge. The City of Clewiston is constructing a bridge just west of the old S-169 structure to replace the public access over the C-21 Canal.

Project Highlights:

The demolition portion on the project is complete and ready for prefinal inspection while the S-169W-MS site has completion the end bent construction and is engaged in ongoing demasking of the C-21 canal in preparation of cap construction of the intermediate bent.
