South Spring Street

As part of a downtown revitalization project, two aging, steel-framed parking structures were replaced with the “Bookends,” a mixed-use development that features 30 residential condo units that “bookend” both sides of the 905-space Spring Street Parking Garage. The development also features office space and retail stores at ground level.

This project won several awards:

• Honor Award of Excellence by the American Institute of Architects (South Carolina Chapter)
• Honor Award of Excellence by the American Institute of Architects (Greenville, SC Chapter)
• Honor Award of Excellence by the Brick Association of the Carolinas
• Design Award for Best Parking Structure by the Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute

Project Highlights:

• Three-bay, double-helix structure with two ramped bays and one flat bay
• One-way traffic circulation pattern
• Architectural façade features two-tone brick veneer with aluminum accent screening
• Four glass-backed elevator towers and two glass-backed stair towers
• Covered pedestrian walkway at grade to an adjacent office building
• Provisions for a future vertical expansion
