WGI was awarded this contract, which was one of three separate safety projects. The proposed safety improvements to SR 109/SR 10 intersection include extending the southbound right turn lane, adding a northbound right turn lane, and realigning Lawrence Place. The improvements to SR 10 included extending the inside eastbound left turn lane and adding a second (dual) westbound left turn lane. Right-of-way acquisition needed for the improvements required the Team to provide right-of-way control and right-of-way maps. WGI coordinated with the District’s Right-of-Way Acquisition staff to minimize right-of-way impacts, where possible, to the several businesses adjacent to the project.
WGI addressed several additional concerns that developed during the design phase, such as adjustment of SR 109 lane widths to accommodate a newly constructed Dollar Tree Store, evaluated bike keyhole lanes based on new PPM and FHWA criteria and evaluated the use of License Agreements versus traditional TCEs.
