This project involved resurfacing, restoration and rehabilitation of SR 76 (Kanner Highway) between MP 1.81 and MP 9.77. SR 76 is a rural, 2-lane, 55 mph facility located in western Martin County and serves as a hurricane evacuation route. Engineering services included a no-passing zone study, the development of construction plans and specifications, and securing permits for the proposed improvements. Design challenges included traffic traveling well above the posted speed limit, run-off-road accidents, and a corridor that affords few opportunities for new landscaping. The principal reason for the improvement was to extend the life of the existing pavement while providing general safety enhancements. Construction plans consisted primarily of typical section sheets, detail sheets, cross-sections, SWPPP, and TCP. WGI survey services included horizontal and vertical control, historical baseline, right-of-way lines, cross-section/profiles, drainage survey, subdivision monumentation surveys, and a PNC sheet.
