WGI provided civil engineering services for two trail improvement projects for The Trail Foundation, a 501(c)3 dedicated to protecting, enhancing, and connecting the Butler Hike-and-Bike Trail at Lady Bird Lake in cooperation with the City of Austin’s Parks and Recreation Department.
The Eastside Trail Bridge spans the intermittent creek just east of the Hostel, providing a crossing that moves trail users closer to the water and away from traffic. In addition, nearly 700 feet of new trail was constructed. The Heron Creek Restroom project provides trail users with a much needed rest area on the north shore of Lady Bird Lake. The distinctive design by Mell Lawrence Architects won an AIA Austin Design Award in 2016.
