Ultimate Urban Circulator Program - Phase 1

WGI was selected as part of the DBOM “Vision to Reality” team to deliver Phase 1 of the U2C program, the Bay Street Innovation Corridor (BSIC). The U2C is a comprehensive program to modernize and expand the Skyway and introduce autonomous vehicles (AV) into JTA’s transportation system, and supports their vision of a vibrant, revitalized, and better-connected Downtown Jacksonville. The BSIC is the East Corridor route extending from the Skyway’s Central Station east to the Sports/Entertainment District/TIAA Bank Field. The federally funded project will be the initial phase of the U2C program and introduce autonomous vehicles along a key transportation corridor in Downtown Jacksonville.

WGI is performing full design and consulting services in this Phase 1 implementation, including roadway improvements, ITS and network upgrades along the route, twelve (12) new U2C-branded AV stations with shelters and other connectivity amenities, and an operations and maintenance (O&M) facility consisting of a building with an operations control room and maintenance bays for the AV, as well as an exterior covered storage area with electric vehicle charging provisions, a wash station, and future connectivity to the overhead Skyway when converted to fully autonomous operations. The O&M facility will be the lynchpin for the entire U2C program and central command center as all future phases are constructed and commissioned.
