The Thompson Street Parking Structure was built in the early 1960s and consists of a multi-level reinforced concrete parking garage. It has two parking bays oriented in the north and south direction and inclined ramps permitting two-way traffic. The structure has stair towers at the northeast and southwest corner of the facility and provides parking for 684 cars adjacent University facilities. The conventionally reinforced concrete slab construction has undergone prior repairs, with considerable floor slab restorations being done during 1994 and 1995. Additional supports were provided beneath the east and west cantilevered portions of the structure and along the interior column line.
WGI conducted an evaluation of the north wall of the structure and provided recommendations for repair. Masonry distress and displacement of the brick on the lower floors at the shelf angle were observed, as well as a severe load path interruption along the entire north wall. WGI prepared construction documents and provided field construction observations for the restoration of the structure.
