Walnut St. Streetscape

Client:
City of Green Cove Springs
Market:
Cities and Communities, Civic
Location:
Green Cove Springs, FL

Project Details

Located in Northeast Florida, on the banks of the St. John’s River, the City of Green Cove Springs is the county seat of Clay County. Once a thriving town during the river and railroad heydays of the late 1800’s, today the downtown core suffers from limited commercial activity and was identified as an area in need of revitalization.

Walnut Street has served as the primary civic and commercial corridor since the City’s founding. Improvements to this streetscape, including shade trees and other aesthetic and pedestrian improvements, underscore this important gateway into downtown. The curbless design supports a multi-purpose street which can accommodate festivals, food truck events, and spur economic revitalization of the area.

WGI services for this project included roadway and drainage plans, signing and pavement marking plans, lighting plans, landscape/hardscape plans, a geotechnical analysis, a topographic survey, permitting with St. Johns River Water Management District and the Florida Department Of Environmental Protection, and subsurface utility engineering.

Project Highlights:

• Historic Downtown Streetscape

• Green Infrastructure

Project Cost $3,350,000.00
