Wellesley Sustainable Mobility Plan

Client:
Town of Wellesley
Market:
Cities and Communities
Location:
Wellesley, Massachusetts

Project Details

WGI was chosen by the Town of Wellesley to lead community engagement and surveys, infrastructure, new mobility, and performance metrics for a Sustainable Mobility Plan (“SMP”). The plan included 5- to 10-year roadmaps with a goal of reducing transportation-related greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. The town listed several areas for meeting its aggressive goals to reduce overall emissions by 30% in 2030 and to net-zero by 2050, focusing on connectivity, multi-modal transportation, safety, school travel, and grant opportunities.

The SMP analyzed existing conditions and identified gaps and opportunities to create transit-oriented development (TOD), increase housing options, incorporate micro-transit and other technologies to reduce relience on single-occupancy car ownership. It also provided grant opportunities and recommendations to work with the Boston MPO and Metropolitan Area Planning Council to identify priority projects that align with the 2021 infrastructure bill.
