The Wharf District Garage is located along the eastern shore of the Monongahela River in downtown Morgantown. This area of the city has seen substantial new development activity through a combination of residential, office and restaurant projects that have involved the rehabilitation and re-use of former warehouses and other historic buildings. The city realized the need to create additional parking to accommodate the boom of new development activity.
• Multiple façade elements accentuate the architectural features of the existing warehouse district
• Structural steel elements in the stairwells complement an adjacent steel truss bridge
• Ornamental canopies and banners adorn the garage entrance, adding to the aesthetic nature of the project
• Constructed on a very small site, this structure used a cantilevered grade beam along its north building line
• Existing underground utilities were also a design and engineering challenge
• Structure features a pedestrian and bicycle connection to the adjacent river walk
• Designed to provide easy access for bicyclists and pedestrians switching from automobiles to these other modes of transportation
