YES Prep Northline campus was transformed from an old hospital in the 1950s to a campus in 2017. The 101,000-square-foot Northline campus provides a tuition-free, public charter school for disadvantaged families and affordable education. Students in grades 6-8 were able to start school in August of 2017 after construction only took 6 months. The campus has an open-concept feel and gives students areas where they are meet and collaborate.
WGI provided structural engineering services that consisted of metal roof decking on open web bar joists supported by both load-bearing CMU walls and structural steel beam framing. In addition, the building consisted of several wings, and the plans of the building included center corridors with rooms on each side. WGI was also required to cut into the existing slab and add new foundations for the location of load-bearing interior walls.
