WGI designed a conceptual site plan for the renovation and expansion of the Peter Blum YMCA in Boca Raton, FL. The client wanted WGI to reimagine the campus as a community destination where people of all ages would hang out. The site plan would also need to include a proposed 1000 SF building addition, a new gymnasium, and increased parking. The proposed site plan for the reinvigorated YMCA was organized into activity centers or nodes dedicated to different age groups, providing some separation while still being integrated into the overall campus. We designed these areas to be flexible and programable to maximize the use of the limited space available.
New amenities include a full regulation soccer field with permanent field lights, a small amphitheater, a splash pad, a pickleball court complex with a game pavilion, a community garden, and multiple gathering spaces. The plan also emphasized environmental sustainability and resiliency by including permeable pavers, bio-swales, and an expanded tree canopy to provide shade in the hot Florida summers.
