On Wednesday, September, 25th a new Gold Star Families Memorial Monument was officially unveiled in West Palm Beach, FL. WGI provided pro-bono site planning, surveying, and structural engineering services for the Palm Beach County Gold Star Families Memorial Monument located at Trinity Park in downtown West Palm Beach, FL. This is the third Gold Star Families Memorial Monument in Florida and the 53rd monument in the United States.
This stunning black granite monument is seven feet tall and 13 feet wide and includes a flag pole. One side bears the words: “Gold Star Families Memorial Monument, a tribute to Gold Star Families and relatives who have sacrificed a loved one for our freedom”. The other side tells a story through the four granite panels: homeland, family, patriot, and sacrifice. The scenes on each panel are a reflection of each community’s Gold Star Families and their fallen heroes. At the center of this tribute is the most distinct feature of the monument, the cut out which represents the loved one who paid the ultimate sacrifice in the name of freedom.
The purpose of the monument is to honor the families who have lost one or more loved ones in the Armed Forces, preserve the memory of the fallen, and stand as a stark reminder that freedom is not free. The Gold Star Family Memorial was created by Medal of Honor recipient, Hershel “Woody" Williams to remember those families who have made the ultimate sacrifice.
