Breaking Ground: WGI Celebrates Ronald Reagan Boulevard Project Kickoff

Dive in to see how WGI’s engineering expertise is bringing the SH 195 at Ronald Reagan Boulevard project in Georgetown, TX, to life.

Recently, Williamson County leaders, TxDOT representatives, project partners, and community members gathered in Georgetown, TX, to officially break ground on the State Highway 195 at Ronald Reagan Boulevard project.

This much-anticipated initiative will improve mobility and, most importantly, enhance roadway safety for thousands of daily drivers in one of Central Texas’ fastest-growing regions. WGI is proud to serve as the project engineer, leading the technical vision behind a design that will transform how residents and visitors navigate this vital corridor for years to come.

Engineering Safety Into Mobility

Today, westbound drivers on SH 195 face a risky maneuver: turning left across fast-moving traffic via Rattlesnake Road to reach Ronald Reagan Boulevard. With rapid growth in Georgetown, Sun City, and nearby communities, this outdated configuration has created daily safety concerns.

The new project addresses this by adding a dedicated right-lane exit ramp from SH 195 to Ronald Reagan Boulevard. This update will:

  • Eliminate dangerous left turns across high-speed lanes

  • Reduce congestion and traffic conflicts

  • Provide a safer, more intuitive connection to one of Williamson County’s most critical roadways

Funded by the 2019 voter-approved WilCo Road Bond and designed in partnership with the Texas Department of Transportation, this project represents a long-term community investment in safer, smarter mobility.

WGI’s Role

For WGI, this project is more than another essential corridor – it marks an important chapter in our Texas story.

This was the first transportation project pursued and designed entirely by WGI’s Texas-based Transportation team, a notable accomplishment that reflects both our engineering expertise and our strong partnership approach.

Our contributions spanned every layer of project delivery, including:

  • Surveying and mapping to capture existing conditions with precision

  • Roadway and traffic design to optimize flow and safety

  • Stormwater design and permitting to address challenging site conditions in a rocky, quarry-adjacent environment

  • Roadway lighting design to improve nighttime visibility and safety

Working alongside trusted partners Modjeski and Masters, Stantec, and Terracon, our team painstakingly refined existing solutions and creatively developed new ones to address right-of-way limitations and complex site conditions. The result is a design that delivers maximum community benefit while minimizing environmental and property impacts.

A Milestone for the Community

At the groundbreaking, Commissioner Valerie Covey emphasized the project’s impact:

“Providing direct access from SH 195 to Ronald Reagan will make it much safer for drivers who are currently crossing the roadway in front of fast-moving traffic.”

Her words reflect WGI’s commitment to engineering safer, more resilient communities. For our Structural and Transportation teams, this project is proof of what’s possible when technical expertise and community vision align.

Building the Future of Williamson County

While the ramp now under construction is scheduled for completion by summer 2026, this is just the beginning. Three additional ramps connecting SH 195 to Ronald Reagan Blvd are already in the pipeline, funded by the 2023 WilCo Road Bond and anticipated to begin construction in 2027.

WGI’s ongoing involvement in these transformative projects reinforces our role as a trusted partner in shaping the Lone Star State’s transportation future, ensuring the region is prepared for the growth and opportunity ahead.

Looking Ahead

At WGI, we know infrastructure is about more than engineering – it’s about building stronger, more resilient communities. The Ronald Reagan Boulevard groundbreaking represents not just a project milestone but an investment in the future of mobility and safety for Central Texas.

We’re honored to help bring this transformative project to life and look forward to drivers benefiting from the enhanced safety and convenience it offers.
