WGI won the Best Parking Facility Rehabilitation or Restoration award from the International Parking Institute (IPI) for their work on the 5,300-car parking structure at the Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport.
Primary Waterproofing Scope
- Expansion Joint Replacement — over two miles of expansion joints removed and replaced
- Deck Coating — complete recoat of 410,000 square feet of all deck coating
- Joint Sealants — over eight miles of joint sealant removal and replacement
Operational, Aesthetic, and Durability Upgrades
- Ceiling Staining — over two million square feet of ceilings are stained white to improve light distribution and promote a feeling of openness.
- Steel Painting — all painted metal items, including all steel framing, stair railings, and metal piping, were cleaned and repainted for durability.
- Drainage Improvements — perimeter curbs removed and supplemental floor drains added to address areas of significant ponding water.
- Structural Repairs — performed where deterioration had occurred.
- Fall Protection — new perimeter barriers provided to enhance safety and bring into compliance with the current building code.
- Lighting — light fixtures at stairs and elevator lobbies cleaned, replaced, and supplemented with additional light fixtures to improve light levels.
- Emergency Phones — replaced old, defunct blue-light phone system to enhance security.
- Façade — environmental staining removed and sealer applied for durability and aesthetics.
- New Restrooms — constructed to serve parking patrons and employees of rental car operations.
- ADA spaces — relocated and concentrated at current terminal access points including new ADA signage and striping.
