As part of WGI’s work on the City of Fernandina Beach’s 2045 Vision Plan, public engagement was prioritized from the outset and sustained throughout the process. The team introduced the project during a virtual Planning Advisory Board meeting, presenting via Zoom and facilitating a SWOT analysis to identify the city’s strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats.
Next, WGI launched the Vision 2045 webpage and promoted online surveys through coordinated social media campaigns across Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, collecting input from over 1,000 residents. The team also attended the Juneteenth Homecoming Celebration to engage directly with the African American community and hosted the “Planning in the Park” workshop, where more than 80 residents participated in interactive exercises such as visioning, dot voting, and funding prioritization.
