The Grand Rapids Community College (GRCC) North Building is a seven-story building constructed in 1970. The slab-on-grade level and the first supported level comprise a parking structure for faculty and staff parking. The remaining upper levels of the facility serve as office and classroom space. The structure accommodates 109 parking spaces over an area of approximately 20,500 square-feet per level. The GRCC Bostwick Parking Structure consists of the Original Structure, built-in 1972, and a North Addition, built-in 1980. Bostwick is constructed of cast-in-place post-tensioned concrete slabs and beams supported by concrete columns.

WGI designed a full slab replacement of the supported parking under the North Building. Approximately 25,000 square-feet of a 10” thick floor slab was removed and replaced while keeping the building in operation. Perimeter walls and columns were braced structurally during floor replacement. WGI conducted a structural evaluation of the GRCC Bostwick Parking Structure, prepared a report with repair options and life-cycle cost analysis, prepared construction documents to implement the selected repair option, and provided construction administrative services during the implementation of the repairs. Design service has been provided every three years; it includes evaluations, construction documents, and construction administration. Repairs have included concrete, post-tensioning, expansion joint, and deck coating.
