The HSV Airport Parking Deck was constructed in 1999. The parking structure provides parking for 1,587 vehicles on six levels. The structural system consists of a post-tensioned cast-in-place concrete beam and slab system.
WGI was retained as an outside consultant to review structural cracking noted in the post-tensioned beams and girders and drainage issues on the main parking decks. WGI provided an analysis of the original design and construction, recommended structural repairs to beams, and consulted on remedial efforts to improve drainage.
WGI provided further consultation and repair recommendations in 2005 regarding the cracking of the floor slabs in the entry and exit helices. WGI completed an updated review in 2009 of specific components of the parking structure. These included the architectural coating on the helices bumper walls and the main structure bumper walls. WGI provided recommendations for preventative maintenance actions to alleviate an ongoing coating blistering problem.
