The Student Center is a three-story building, constructed in 1971, on the Kent State University campus. The building structure consists of a structural steel frame. The exterior walls are composed of clay brick masonry with a concrete masonry backup designed as a drainage wall system: through-wall flashings collect and direct/drain water that penetrates the exterior brick masonry out of the wall system through weep holes. The windows consist of recessed punched windows with sloped brick sills and a plaza-level storefront window system.
WGI performed a condition survey at the building to review the exterior brick masonry wall, window, storefront, balcony, plaza, and soffit components to make recommendations for their repair and maintenance present the associated opinion of probable repair costs. We reviewed the existing conditions and recommended performing repairs to correct deficiencies and waterproof the systems.
