WGI’s civil engineering, mobility, and SUE teams are collaborating on the City of San Antonio’s Leon Creek Greenway project, a 7.3-mile, 12-foot-wide hike-and-bike trail that connects several parks across the city. Our comprehensive scope of services includes designing trailheads and landscape improvements, utility coordination, intersection design, traffic control plans, and ensuring overall QA/QC.
A critical aspect of this project is utility coordination, which involves working with a diverse range of stakeholders, including the City of San Antonio, TxDOT, and federal entities. Due to the trail’s proximity to an airstrip, as well as its path through Port San Antonio—a semi-retired Air Force base with aging infrastructure—significant coordination is required to seamlessly integrate the trail with existing utilities.
Our mobility team is spearheading the intersection designs along the trail, ensuring safe crossings for pedestrians and cyclists at multiple streets and three creek crossings. This planning is essential to create a safe and accessible trail that San Antonio residents can navigate with ease.
In addition, WGI’s role includes developing traffic control plans for construction, modifying curbs, updating signage and striping, and coordinating with utility stakeholders to address infrastructure needs.
This project exemplifies WGI’s ongoing dedication to supporting parks and trail initiatives that align with the City of San Antonio’s vision to establish a connected network of safe, accessible, and visually appealing parks. By fostering community engagement and enhancing the quality of life, WGI is proud to contribute to this transformative effort.
