The Montgomery County Administration parking structure is of cast-in-place concrete, conventionally reinforced, short-span construction. The three below-grade parking levels are directly below the County Administration Building and supported landscaped plaza area.Â
The structure was originally constructed in 1970. The parking levels were severely damaged from corrosion, with 26% of the supported slab delaminated. Significant leaking was occurring through 3,000 linear feet of failed sealants.Â
WGI sequenced the restoration to maintain a safe Montgomery County office business. Parking operations were maintained at 75% of the total capacity.Â
Concrete patching was used to repair deteriorated and spalled concrete areas. A cathodic protection system was installed on the deck surfaces to halt the corrosion process. A bonded concrete overlay was placed over the cathodic protection system throughout the parking levels.Â
The final restoration cost was approximately 15% below the original project budget of $1.53M.Â
In 2008, WGI provided a condition appraisal and maintenance master plan for the two Montgomery County parking decks.Â
