WGI was retained to provide engineering services to evaluate the exterior walls of multiple office buildings owned by the Progressive Insurance Company, including the North Building.
The North Building is a three-story building that was originally constructed in 1973. The building structure consists of a structural steel frame with concrete floor decks. The exterior walls are composed of clay brick masonry with precast concrete accents. The windows within the original building consisted of a lock-strip gasket system with an exposed steel frame. In contrast, the windows within the addition, located to the east, are aluminum framed.
WGI performed a condition survey of the exterior walls to review the exterior brick masonry condition, precast concrete, window systems, and cast-in-place concrete (balconies, stairs, and ramp) to make recommendations for their repair and maintenance and present the associated opinion of probable repair costs. We reviewed the existing conditions and recommended performing repairs to correct deficiencies and waterproofing the systems. We were subsequently retained and are currently performing design services to repair the concrete and the waterproofing systems within the cast-in-place concrete balcony and the precast concrete canopy.
