This project was the Florida Turnpike Enterprise’s first topographic mapping assignment completed using unmanned aerial systems (UAS). The project included a 140-acre borrow pit known as the Rooks Borrow Pit in Citrus County, adjoining the Phase II expansion of the Suncoast Parkway. The project was targeted and flown with WGI’s Firefly 2 RTK-GPS enabled UAS. An ortho-rectified mosaic was created of the site, and .5-foot index contours were created. The deliverable was an FDOT-compliant Microstation SS4 terrain model of the site.
