Solid Waste Authority

 The Solid Waste Authority (SWA) of Palm Beach County is located at the northwest corner of Jog Road and 45th Street in West Palm Beach. In order for operations to continue, new landfill sites needed to be established in the location of the existing operations building. Therefore, a new 5,453-square-foot operations building was built on a 4.88-acre portion of the overall site and functions much like the existing operations building. There is also a 1,200-square-foot maintenance building constructed next to the new operations building. 

WGI was selected for the design team to perform Landscape Architecture services for the operations building and the associated maintenance building. The proposed landscape plan aided in the LEED process by achieving points in the Sustainable Sites and Water Efficiency categories. The proposed landscape design promotes drought-tolerant native planting and uses current Xeriscape principles to reduce the amount of water needed on site. SWA achieved a LEED Gold rating from the USGBC for this facility.
