Project Spotlight: Shark Wake Park 561

Palm Beach County's first cable-tow wakeboard park, Shark Wake 561, opened its doors in 2019 inside Okeeheelee Park in West Palm Beach, Florida. It is the second Shark Wake Park to be opened by Greg Norman Jr., son of World Golf Hall of Fame golfer Greg Norman, behind Shark Wake Park 843 in North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, which opened in 2016. WGI Services

WGI was proud to provide numerous services for Shark Wake Park, such as structural engineering design services and construction documents for final permitting. We were also designated resident inspector for the facility at the request of Palm Beach County.  Shark Wake Park wakeboarding

Securing The Permit

For Palm Beach County to grant a permit for the facility, a professional engineer had to review the referenced Alta CableSki design drawings and calculations, sign and seal the tower placement and foundation drawings, and accept the Engineer of Record responsibility. WGI reviewed the drawings and calculations and provided comments relative to the system's compliance with the Florida Building Code 6th Edition (2017). Cable cords at Shark Wake Park

Park Features

Shark Wake Park 561 offers a variety of thrilling attractions for guests, like cable wakeboarding and knee boarding. The wakeboarding area has a 5-tower full-size cable and a 2-tower cable system. The cable-stayed compression towers and an interior tensioned cable loop is driven through a series of sheaves mounted to the towers—the interior cable loop tows the wakeboard or water skier. Shark Wake Park In addition to numerous wakeboarding activities, the facility also offers one of the largest floating obstacle courses on the East Coast, consisting of monkey bars, slides, climbing towers, and more.  The park also offers a "Shark Shack" snack bar and a pro shop, which both offer 360° views of the park, so you can enjoy a great show while watching friends, family, and pros ride.
