Construction for the Wekiva Parkway Section 6 project is over 50% completed and is slated to be finished in March of 2021.
The major controlling item of work is concentrated towards the three segmental span bridges over the environmentally protected Wekiva River. The cantilever section of the northbound bridge is set to be completed by the end of July - early August.
Piles are being driven, girders are being set, and decks are being poured on the other various bridges, including the three wildlife crossings which have a combined total length of 5,772’.
Embankment work and paving operations are in place along the service/frontage roads which will aid in the upcoming traffic shifts. Traffic on the existing CR 46 will be diverted onto the service road to allow for portions of CR 46 to be removed and construction on SR 429 to continue by the end of the year.
Utility adjustments with the adjoining Wekiva Parkway projects to the west, are also underway in preparation for the proposed expressway and the placement of the ACROW Bridge for use in the upcoming MOT phasing. The ACROW bridge is a modular steel bridge, delivered on site and assembled, to be used in a temporary case for the traffic shift from the existing CR 46. Once traffic is shifted onto the permanent SR 429, the bridge will be taken apart and shipped back to the manufacturer.
