As cities grow and evolve, the design of public spaces becomes a critical tool for fostering community and enhancing quality of life. Bell Park, a new 15-acre public space in the heart of Cedar Park, Texas, exemplifies this approach. Positioned along Cluck Creek and adjacent to the Cedar Park Public Library, Bell Park is an integral component of the city’s Bell District redevelopment, offering a thoughtfully designed, well-connected destination for recreation and relaxation.
A Vision for Integrated Urban Green Space
Bell Park’s design aligns closely with the vision for the Bell District, blending natural features with community-focused infrastructure. With 4,000 linear feet of new trails, including 3,700 feet of shared-use concrete paths, the park strengthens pedestrian and bike connectivity between neighborhoods, civic destinations, and commercial zones. At the same time, the layout ensures that it functions as both a recreational escape and a key link in Cedar Park’s expanding trail network.
WGI’s Role: Multidisciplinary MEP Services for a Modern Public Park
WGI was selected to provide multidisciplinary MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing) engineering services for Bell Park, ensuring the park’s infrastructure supports its long-term operational needs while meeting sustainability and safety standards. Our contributions focused on:
- Power Distribution – Providing reliable and efficient power to critical park facilities, including restroom buildings, the Trailhead Pavilion, and playscape areas.
- Lighting Design – Creating a safe and inviting atmosphere through strategically designed lighting for trails, natural features, and artistic installations.
- Trail & Park Illumination – Improving visibility and wayfinding along all 4,000 feet of park pathways, enhancing safety for users throughout the day and night.
- Sustainable Electrical Solutions – Prioritizing energy-efficient systems that reduce environmental impact and operational costs.
- Mechanical and Plumbing Support – Designing ventilation, water supply, and drainage systems to serve high-use amenities and support long-term maintenance.
A Collaborative and Context-Sensitive Design Process
WGI worked closely with the City of Cedar Park, project developer RedLeaf, and design partners to ensure the park’s infrastructure was integrated into the site’s natural and built features. Our engineers balanced technical requirements with the need for minimal visual disruption, helping preserve the park’s open, natural feel while ensuring the facilities perform reliably for daily use and large public events alike.
Shaping the Future of Public Space in Cedar Park
Bell Park is more than a green space; it represents a forward-thinking investment in Cedar Park’s civic identity and quality of life. As part of the city’s larger redevelopment efforts, the park supports a more inclusive and sustainable urban environment. With its trail network, modern amenities, and community-first design, Bell Park will serve residents and visitors alike for generations.
