The Pasco County Technology Center in Dade City, Florida, is more than just a government facility; it’s a resilient, state-of-the-art operations hub designed to ensure that critical public services remain operational under any condition.
This 57,000+ square-foot, storm-hardened facility brings together two essential county functions – election logistics and IT infrastructure – under one roof, creating a streamlined, secure, and future-ready hub. From secure storage for election equipment to a data center with redundant systems and an emergency operations center, the facility integrates multiple mission-critical functions while maintaining a strong focus on energy efficiency, sustainability, and safety.
Built to withstand Florida’s most extreme weather events, the center reflects Pasco County’s forward-thinking approach to public infrastructure, consolidating essential services, optimizing operational performance, and preparing for long-term community resilience.
WGI’s Role: Engineering Resiliency Into the Core
WGI was honored to play a central role in this award-winning project, delivering comprehensive Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, and Fire Protection (MEPFP) engineering services that formed the backbone of the facility’s operations.
Our team collaborated closely with Bacon Group Architecture, FG+M, and county leadership from the earliest design phases, ensuring that every system would not only exceed current operational needs but also anticipate and meet future challenges.
Beyond standard code compliance, our team engineered solutions that perform flawlessly in the high-stakes environment of election logistics and data management.
Every decision was guided by a commitment to resiliency, reliability, and long-term community value, while also addressing ambitious goals for sustainability and energy efficiency.
Engineering Solutions for Mission-Critical Operations
At WGI, we deliver integrated engineering solutions that ensure mission-critical facilities remain resilient, efficient, and fully operational…. No matter the challenge:
- Mechanical: WGI designed an N+1 redundant HVAC system capable of maintaining precise climate control for sensitive data center equipment while ensuring energy efficiency throughout the building. Storm-resistant systems and advanced controls provide uninterrupted operation during severe weather events.
- Electrical: We developed a robust power distribution network with multiple layers of emergency backup to safeguard against outages. Lighting systems were tailored to deliver optimal visibility, occupant comfort, and significant energy savings.
- Plumbing: Our designs incorporated durable, low-maintenance systems with greywater and rainwater harvesting to reduce reliance on potable water, improve sustainability, and maintain service continuity during supply disruptions.
- Fire Protection: Recognizing the value of the assets housed in the facility, we engineered specialized fire suppression systems—including clean-agent, double interlock pre-action, and dry-pipe systems specifically for protecting mission-critical IT and archival storage areas.
Sustainability and Innovation
Sustainability was treated as a core performance requirement rather than an optional feature from the start, with the Technology Center achieving LEED® Silver Certification under the USGBC’s “New Construction – Public Large” category.
Among its many green design elements is an interactive solar monitoring display, providing real-time energy generation and usage data for staff and visitors. This feature not only showcases Pasco County’s investment in renewable energy but also fosters public awareness of environmental stewardship.
A Future-Ready Public Asset
The Pasco County Technology Center stands as a model for how public-sector infrastructure can be both highly functional and forward-looking.
Recognized by the U.S. Green Building Council as an Outstanding Project of the Year, it demonstrates the value of combining resilient engineering with sustainable design.
For WGI, the project represents more than a technical achievement – It reflects our mission to create systems that protect essential services, empower communities, and stand the test of time.
Through our integrated approach, we helped deliver a facility that will serve the people of Pasco County for decades to come, regardless of the challenges that lie ahead.
