SFWMD contracted WGI to perform a boundary survey of the easternmost 13 miles of Levee L-1 in Hendry County. The purpose was to establish and monument the limits of District rights-of-way in the levee and horizontally tie physical features to the boundary. In doing this, WGI created the first new right-of-way map of the levee since 1978. This re-established the original 1952 U.S. Army Corps of Engineers baseline for the eastern 10 miles of the project site. WGI used original FCE control monumentation and applied modern state plane coordinates using GPS to precisely transform the original maps into today’s NAD 83/07 horizontal datum. The District provided an 85-page Title Memo to build the boundary from nearly 60 years of deeds, easements, judgments and agreements with adjoining private landowners. This document detailed the timeline of events necessary to construct the original levee.
Services provided for this project included a 22-sheet boundary survey right-of-way map; filing of 36 Certified Corner Records with State Surveyors at the Florida Department of Environmental Protection to perpetuate established section corners for the future; and establishment of 213 right-of-way monuments on the boundary.
