Partnering with the City of Coconut Creek, our team is helping to transform two of the city’s beloved parks, Donaldson Park and Sunshine Drive Park, into enhanced, dynamic spaces for recreation and community connection. Bringing together our landscape architecture, civil, and structural engineering expertise, these projects reflect WGI’s commitment to creating vibrant, sustainable outdoor environments that serve and inspire.
To bring these concepts to life in a truly immersive way, WGI has also developed virtual reality (VR) experiences for both Donaldson Drive Park and Sunshine Park, allowing stakeholders to explore these revitalized spaces before they’re built. Through these VR models, viewers can virtually walk along the new trails, enjoy the park landscapes, and experience the layout of recreational spaces firsthand.
Here’s a closer look at each project and the value that WGI is bringing to these vital community spaces: Donaldson Park VR Experience and Sunshine Drive Park VR Experience. This innovative approach not only enhances stakeholder engagement but also demonstrates WGI’s dedication to transparency and forward-thinking design.
Donaldson Park, a cherished municipal park, is undergoing a transformative design process with a focus on expanding outdoor activities and recreational amenities – WGI’s design services emphasize the park’s natural surroundings, enabling greater access to its waterfront while also enhancing its landscape and infrastructure.
The improvement plan features a new fishing dock and a dedicated kayak launch platform, providing park visitors with easier, safer ways to enjoy water activities. Additionally, new walking trails are designed to weave through the park, encouraging visitors to explore and connect with nature. A modern outdoor entertainment area is also in development, creating a flexible gathering space for events, performances, and social interaction.
WGI’s role extends across landscape architecture, civil, and structural engineering services to ensure that each new addition blends seamlessly with the existing landscape while adhering to Coconut Creek’s vision of sustainability and functionality. The design also includes thoughtful hardscape and landscape enhancements to create a cohesive, visually appealing park experience that fosters community well-being.
Sunshine Drive Park, a smaller neighborhood park, is also undergoing a revitalization led by WGI – With this project focused on creating spaces that inspire active lifestyles for all ages within the neighborhood.
The design includes the addition of a basketball court, providing residents with a space for recreation and social gatherings. And for younger visitors, new playground equipment has been incorporated to stimulate creativity and play.
WGI’s team is also introducing a new walking trail connecting the neighborhood to Sunshine Drive Park, inviting parkgoers to enjoy leisurely strolls while surrounded by nature. Complementing these active spaces, our landscape architects and civil engineers are enhancing the park’s aesthetics and functionality with upgraded site amenities, hardscape improvements, and landscape features that emphasize the beauty of the park’s surroundings.
As part of both projects, WGI’s award-winning landscape architecture team has brought extensive experience in designing and implementing landscape enhancements tailored to public spaces.
In Coconut Creek and throughout Florida, our team has delivered impactful landscape design solutions for major projects in numerous municipalities, as well as along state right-of-way corridors and FDOT projects, with services including tree inventory, landscape, irrigation, lighting and hardscape design, and construction observation services. With an approach that prioritizes the preservation of natural plant communities and the strategic placement of relocated trees, WGI is dedicated to promoting sustainable, resilient landscapes that benefit the environment and enrich the user experience.
Through these exciting projects at Donaldson and Sunshine Drive Parks, WGI continues to expand its footprint in the City of Coconut Creek, providing innovative design solutions that foster connectivity, recreation, and community pride. These enhancements also serve as a further testament to WGI’s commitment to creating memorable public spaces that serve and inspire.
WGI is proud to support Coconut Creek in creating exceptional, sustainable spaces for the community to enjoy for generations to come. Our team is dedicated to owning challenges, creating opportunities, and shaping the future through thoughtful design and engineering solutions.
