Exceeding Client Expectations Through a Collaborative Design Process

Discover how WGI’s collaborative approach turns client visions into thoughtfully designed, engaging outdoor spaces that enhance community living.

Creating outdoor spaces that are both functional and inviting requires a deep understanding of client needs and a willingness to embrace creative collaboration – At WGI, our landscape architecture team thrives on turning ideas into reality through a creative process that is equal parts strategic, and innovative and puts the client’s needs at the heart of everything we do!

Understanding the Vision

Every great project starts with a vision – And having worked on a recent multifamily development project in Austin, Texas, our client had a very clear yet distinct set of ideas in mind as they looked to incorporate a “cool” aesthetic, a “speakeasy feel,” spaces for residents to connect with their dogs, drought-tolerant landscapes, as well as inviting pool areas.

With these goals in mind, our team accepted the challenge and set out to craft courtyards that would not only meet but exceed these expectations.

From Concept to Creation

As opposed to taking a singular approach, our landscape architects engaged in a design charrette – a commonly used collaborative workshop technique in landscape architecture where each team member contributed unique perspectives by visually laying out their ideas and presenting them to the team.

By pinning up sketches, analyzing concepts, and discussing various design solutions, our team uncovered a few key themes: the smaller courtyard should be an intimate retreat, while the larger one should encourage community interaction and recreation.

Using digital collaboration tools and frequent check-ins, our team seamlessly refined these ideas into a cohesive presentation. This iterative process allowed us to integrate client feedback efficiently and ensure every detail aligned with their vision.

Elevating the Resident Experience

A well-designed outdoor space is more than just an amenity – it’s a lifestyle feature that influences leasing decisions and enhances community engagement.

Thoughtful design choices, such as integrating green spaces, creating flexible gathering areas, and ensuring sustainability, contribute to an environment where residents can relax, connect, and thrive.
