Event Recap: Construction Career Days 2025

WGI proudly participated in the 12th annual Northeast Florida Construction Career Days, where over 2,300 students explored hands-on learning opportunities in infrastructure careers, engaging with industry professionals and cutting-edge geospatial technology.

WGI recently participated in the annual Northeast Florida Construction Career Days (CCD), an immersive, hands-on event designed to introduce high school students to careers in the infrastructure construction industry.

Since its inception in 2014, this student-focused initiative has served as a vital platform for career education, organized in collaboration with private industry partners as well as federal, state, and local transportation agencies.

CCD events take place in nearly all 50 states, offering interactive experiences rarely available in a traditional classroom setting – And thanks to partnerships with leading industry organizations such as the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) and the Federal Highway Administration (FHA), CCD has made a lasting impact on countless aspiring engineers over the past decade!

Each year, the event provides a unique opportunity for students to connect with industry professionals and explore potential career paths.

Despite a rainy start on Tuesday and logistical challenges on Thursday, the 12th annual Northeast Florida CCD proved to be no different standing as a tremendous success, and underscoring the industry’s dedication to educating and engaging the next generation.

A record-breaking 1,450 students attended on Thursday alone, bringing the total number of participants – 2,133 students from 67 schools across 14 counties – to more than 2,300!

A standout feature of the event was the 54 interactive Learning Labs, designed to give students hands-on exposure to various career opportunities.

WGI’s geospatial team, represented by Kaitlyn Pelletier and Gilberto Claudio, led one of these engaging sessions, providing students with an in-depth look at transportation and infrastructure development. Their lab highlighted cutting-edge geospatial technology and real-world applications, sparking curiosity and interest among participants.

The event’s success was made possible by the dedication of 264 chaperone volunteers, including WGI team members Brett Crews, Travis Richards, Josh Mattox, and AJ Uecker.

Their support, along with the collective efforts of all volunteers, ensured a seamless and enriching experience for students. The enthusiasm and teamwork displayed by industry professionals throughout the event reinforced the importance of mentorship and hands-on learning in inspiring future careers.

WGI is proud to support initiatives such as Construction Career Days, which not only introduce students to rewarding career paths but also highlight the vital role of infrastructure in everyday life.

We remain committed to engaging with the next generation of professionals and look forward to continuing our involvement in this impactful event for years to come!
