Primary Responsibilities:

The selected candidate will be responsible for overall oversight of the NCDOT Emergency Express DB program and will develop and implement strategies to build relationships with key contractors in the Carolina’s and with other designers to secure work in the Alternative Delivery Division. The candidate will direct work for the NCDOT Emergency Express DB project and if required assist in the management to deliver the project(s) successfully. Below is a list of Primary Responsibilities:

  • Lead the successful development of alternative delivery projects via prime and sub roles
  • Oversee and manage a staff of design engineers and coordinate with various disciplines both internal and external to WGI.
  • Expanding and enhancing the transportation design program to cultivate and retain skilled professionals, ensuring a robust talent pipeline.
  • Strengthening connections within the Southeast and local offices to enhance collaboration and business development opportunities.
  • Leading significant projects, often termed mega projects, ensuring strategic alignment and successful outcomes.
  • Coordinate with WGI's clients and team members, prepare meeting notes, prepare invoices, manage assigned project financials (BST experience is a plus), and progress reports to support assigned projects.
  • Perform quality control reviews and prepare/oversee construction quantity estimates.
  • Cross train in other transportation disciplines including roadway, drainage, signing and pavement marking, signalization and maintenance of traffic.
  • Pursue additional work from existing and new WGI clients and be responsible for meeting with clients, preparing pursuit materials and coordinating with required discipline leads.
  • Providing guidance and coaching to emerging leaders within the firm, fostering professional development and succession planning.
  • Engaging in activities that support the creation of effective, high-performing teams, driving project success and organizational excellence.
  • Actively participating in the recruitment process to attract and retain industry-leading professionals, ensuring the firm maintains a competitive edge.
  • Represent the company in client meetings, industry events, and presentations to reinforce market presence and credibility.

Secondary Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the business development and program support for WGI’s Raleigh Office.
  • Assist the WGI Raleigh Office in the marketing and pursuit of assignments under the firm’s various LSA contracts.
  • Pursue assignments utilizing existing relationships with NCDOT Divisions, specifically NCDOT Division 6 and the NCDOT Ferry Division.
  • Pursue assignments to assist NCDOT in delivering the Hurricane Hellene damage restoration in Western North Carolina.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited four-year college, DBIA certified is a strong plus.
  • Demonstrated 20+ years in progressively responsible experience.
  • Active North Carolina or Florida Professional Engineering License or the ability to obtain either license within 6-months of employment.
  • Highway Project Management experience preferred:
    • Project Management with NCDOT or FDOT
    • Project Management with municipalities.
    • Prior supervisory experience leading an engineering team.
    • Ability to lead winning project pursuits including letter of interest preparation, presentation development and presentation skills (interviews, question & answer sessions, leading presentations).
    • Prepare contracts, scopes of services, and fee estimates (in accordance with NCDOT or FDOT standard practices and requirements).
    • Ability/desire to lead a team of engineering and marketing staff to pursue, win and design transportation related projects.
    • Ability to work independently and on large multi-discipline teams.
    • Microsoft office skills – including Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Project.
    • Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
    • Travel to other office locations may be required.

  • Conduct workflow processes with a methodological approach based on Geographic Information System (GIS), CAD, and remote sensing technology. In this position, you will manage transportation design projects for clients such as NCDOT and municipalities.  A strong background in NC roadway design engineering is required, as well as an understanding of and coordination with multiple other disciplines, including roadway drainage, structures, and survey to name a few.  The candidate will work in a fast-paced engineering environment where projects may be derived from many delivery methods, including conventional publicly bid projects and design-build.   

 

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and manage a staff of 2 to 6 design engineers and coordinate with various disciplines, both internal and external to WGI;
  • Manage/develop engineering designs, including geometric alignments, profiles, cross sections, construction, and maintenance of traffic details;
  • Create engineering documents, including Typical Section Packages, Pavement Design Reports, and Variation/Exception Reports;
  • Coordinate with WGI's clients and team members, prepare meeting notes, prepare invoices, and progress reports to support his or her projects;
  • Perform quality control reviews and prepare/oversee construction quantity estimates;
  • Cross-train in other transportation disciplines, including drainage, signing and pavement marking, signalization and maintenance of traffic;

Qualifications:

  • NC Professional Engineering Registration;
  • Highway design lead experience preferred:
    • Project Management with NCDOT;
    • Project Management with municipalities;
    • Prior supervisory experience leading an engineering team;
    • Proficiency in Microstation/ORD
    • Experience with 3D Corridor Modeling a strong plus;

Responsibilities:

This position requires extensive and diversified knowledge of principles and practices in broad areas of assignments and related fields.  Uses advanced techniques in the modification or extension of theories and practices of sciences and disciplines to complete assignments. Has full responsibility for interpreting, organizing, executing, and coordinating engineering projects.

 

  • Serves as a technical specialist on certain projects.
  • Makes preliminary selections, and engineering adaptations, and prepares reports in line with engineering principles and practices.
  • Adjusts and correlates data, recognizing and addressing discrepancies.
  • Assist with business development activities including marketing and proposal preparation, as necessary.
  • Plans, coordinates, and supervises other engineers’ work.  
  • Prepare specifications for use in engineering design and development. 
  • Assume responsibility for budgets, staff management, client and regulatory agency interactions, project schedule, and deliverable production on projects.
  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering from an accredited four-year college
  • Demonstrated minimum 20+ years of post registration experience in civil and /or municipal engineering
  • Licensed as a Professional Engineer (PE) in the State of Florida or have the ability to obtain within 6 months of employment.
  • Require knowledge of civil engineering theory, principles and practices as they relate to the implementation of public works improvements.  
  • Ability to use computers, calculators, and design software as well as basic software applications such as spreadsheets, databases, and word processors. 
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts to others in the engineering profession.
  • Possess advanced oral and written communication skills. 
  • Effectively coordinate, perform, and complete multiple duties and assignments concurrently and in a timely manner. 
  • Travel to other office locations may be required.

  • Oversee engineering designs including geometric alignments, profiles, cross sections, construction and maintenance of traffic details
  • Oversee the creation of engineering documents including Typical Section Packages, Pavement Design Reports, and Variation/Exception Reports
  • Perform advanced Microstation/GEOPAK/Open Roads processes
  • Internally manage a team of up to 4 engineers developing plans, calculations and specifications
  • Coordinate plans, calculations and specifications amongst multi-discipline engineering teams
  • Perform internal Quality Control to ensure designs, plans and calculations are complete and accurate
  • Organize and coordinate a variety of project administrative duties including client communication and maintaining the project's financial progress
  • Participate in business development activities, assisting in the creation of letters of response and technical proposals/presentations
  • Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an accredited four-year college
  • Florida Professional Engineering Registration
  • Proficiency in advanced Microstation/GEOPAK/Open Roads processes
  • Experience with 3D Corridor Modeling a strong plus
  • Drainage design is a plus
  • Strong knowledge of FDOT plans preparation criteria and design standards
  • Knowledge of other transportation disciplines and their relationship to roadway design
  • Strong work ethic and ability to organize and manage small to medium sized engineering design teams
  • Exceptional verbal communication and technical writing skills
  • Ability to train and mentor entry level and junior staff

  • Perform quality control reviews and prepare/oversee construction quantity estimates
  • Cross-train staff in other transportation disciplines

  • Bachelor’s Degree in civil engineering from an accredited four-year college
  • Demonstrated 15+ years in progressively responsible experience
  • Florida Professional Engineering (PE) licience required
  • Advanced MOT Certified preferred
  • Highway design lead experience preferred:
    • Project Management with FDOT (Districts 5 and Florida’s Turnpike Enterprise)
    • Project Management with municipalities
  • Prior supervisory experience leading an engineering tea
  • Ability to work independently and on large multi-discipline teams
  • Microsoft office skills – including Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills
  • Travel to other office locations may be required
