Located at 375 Miracle Mile, Maiz y Agave is a premier three-story Oaxacan restaurant featuring a signature courtyard entrance as part of its extensive renovations for the grand opening. This entrance serves as an architectural focal point of the project.
WGI was engaged by HEXveneer, a premium custom door manufacturer, to perform a rational structural analysis of a custom 25-foot-tall by 6-foot-10-inch-wide composite center pivot door. The door consists of an aluminum tube frame with an aluminum honeycomb core, clad in a layered assembly of multiple wood species bonded with various adhesives to achieve the desired architectural finish. The system incorporates a concealed internal shaft and locking mechanism, allowing the door to pivot about its center while remaining secure in the closed position.
The door was designed in accordance with the Florida Building Code, including wind load requirements for the High-Velocity Hurricane Zone (HVHZ). Evaluation included verification of material stresses and compatibility of the composite assembly, ensuring the system performs as a unified structural element under wind loading.
