A structural evaluation and repair options analysis was completed on the Allegan Street Parking Structure and Plaza, summarizing various repair and protection options available. Following the repair and protection option selection, WGI completed construction documents, assisted with contractor bidding, and provided construction administration services, including on-site observation.
The cast-in-place concrete conventionally reinforced two-way slab structure provides 2,200 vehicle spaces for the State of Michigan employees. The entire parking structure is below several State of Michigan office buildings and plazas.
All restoration was sequenced to maintain the State of Michigan office business and 80 percent of the total parking capacity. Sound and dust containment was implemented. Construction included a full slab replacement on 400,000 square feet of supported parking level with all new lighting, plumbing, and a fire protection system. Deck coating was applied throughout. Construction also included the complete removal and replacement of 350,000 square feet of the plaza area, including waterproofing, hardscape, and planters.
