WGI was responsible for reconstructing a one-mile section of an arterial road in Palm Beach County to construct a tunnel for the Old Palm Golf Club development. Roadway Improvements included raising Central Boulevard approximately 11.5 feet to accommodate a 10-foot by 26-foot cast-in-place tunnel with a slab elevation at approximately 8 feet. Additionally, existing storm water management facilities were evaluated and designed to address grade changes associated with raising the roadway. Improvements included turn lanes into the development, storm water management facilities, and two new utility lines for service development.
Due to raising the elevation of the 4-lane road, WGI was responsible for analyzing the Northern Palm Beach County Improvement District Unit No. 2A surface water management system for compensating storage compliance. WGI also designed a 20-horsepower 3-phase duplex storm water pumping station in association with the tunnel construction to ensure the tunnel remains dry.
