WGI was selected to lead the pedestrian, mobility, and street improvements for District 3 as part of the City of San Antonio’s 2017-2022 bond program. The proposed improvements include 28 street segments (project locations) focused on enhancing pedestrian mobility, adding safety for multi modal users, providing connectivity to major thoroughfares and neighborhoods, and improving accessibility to parks and the linear creek way trail system. Roadway infrastructure improvements include ADA access, improved flatwork, overhead flashers, roadside beacons for school zones, signage, striping, and upgraded Z crossings for added pedestrian safety.
Our team is focusing on collecting pedestrian and traffic data, developing solutions for multi modal users, and preparing PS&E for these improvements to facilitate estimating and construction. Implementing new signage, more visible striping, and adding traffic channelization devices for each of the 28 locations is essential. Other key design measures that are evaluated for each location include ADA related upgrades, safe traffic control plans, stakeholder coordination, and public impact. Our team is providing utility coordination local agency coordination, and public outreach for seamless construction. We are also a sub-consultant to another firm serving in a similar role for District 5.
