WGI was responsible for the design, permitting, and construction observation of a 150-foot long by 8-foot high by 12-foot wide concrete box culvert associated with the widening of Hood Road. The services WGI provided to the Northern Palm Beach County Improvement District (NPBCID) were civil, structural, and geotechnical engineering, and surveying.
This project had several challenges that were addressed. The first challenge was to maintain drainage flow at all times during construction for the 2,700-acre NPBCID drainage basin, Unit No. 2 served by this structure. This was accomplished by utilizing two existing deteriorated culverts adjacent to the proposed box culvert and stand-by emergency pumps. Another challenge was to design and construct the improvements adjacent and parallel to the FEC Railroad right-of-way.
