Gulf Coast Town Center is a mixed-use retail and entertainment shopping mall located on approximately 80 acres in Fort Myers, Florida. The property is located north of Florida Gulf Coast University and is at the epicenter of Southwest Florida’s main growth corridor, featuring many of the nation’s top retailers and restaurateurs. The center required revitalizing common areas and underutilized spaces throughout the site. WGI worked closely with the client to develop creative strategies to attract locals and visitors to the site and help reinvigorate life into the development. After the conceptual design was complete, WGI navigated the project through Lee County entitlements and prepared final construction documents for the project. Services provided include planning, environmental, landscape architecture, civil engineering, and structural engineering.
• WGI’s landscape architecture worked with Studio 431 – Landscape Forms, a premier maker of custom site elements to turn conceptual design into an actual interactive play sculpture for the roundabout. What was once an unutilized space is now an urban park. The roundabout features outdoor slides with berming and a misting sculpture with swings. The park area tucked between restaurant and retail has an adult and kids playground area along with an outdoor amphitheater with new lawn and seating spaces.
