The Seminole Tribe of Florida (STOF) Environmental Resource Management Department (ERMD) contracted WGI to prepare construction plans for the Lakeland Tribal Trust Property’s Wetland Mitigation Area located in Polk County, Florida. The wetland mitigation area is a United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) permit required onsite wetland enhancement to compensate for the impact to 0.42 acres of waters of the U.S. from the development of the STOF Lakeland Master Plan. The compensatory mitigation area was approximately 50 acres composed of forested wetlands. Approved components of the permit drawings for the onsite hydrologic wetland enhancement consisted of the installation of a clay core and HDPE liner with a water control structure between an existing canal and wetland. WGI successfully designed and the hydrologic enhancement which established the new seasonal high water table at elevation 129.0 feet NGVD (at least 0.5 feet above previous conditions). The project included preliminary investigation, verification of existing conditions, topographic surveying, coordinating geotechnical services for the site, engineering plans and specifications, bidding assistance and construction phase services.
