WGI designed a five-lane entrance bridge off State Road 7 and over the Lake Worth Drainage District E-1 Canal in Wellington, Florida. The 70-foot wide bridge is constructed with prestressed concrete piles, a concrete king pile and sheet panel abutment retaining wall, cast-in-place concrete pile cap, and prestressed concrete bridge decks that are transversely post-tensioned. The bridge design included a concrete railing with intricate inlaid decorative detailing and corbelled pilasters supporting planters.
WGI staff provided structural design services and construction administration services. Design services included preparation of construction design plans signed and sealed design calculations, preparation of an engineer’s cost estimate, and oversight of the permit application process. Construction services included observation of the concrete prestressing, reinforcement, and concrete placement. Field and prestressed yard observations were completed throughout construction so that final certification could be provided.
