As part of the new Parks and Recreation Master Plan for the Village of Palm Springs, WGI developed a comprehensive outreach plan to engage the Hispanic community, families, and children. WGI launched a survey vis Survey123 to gather public input on what park and recreation amenities the community wanted to see in the future. The survey was available in English, Spanish, and Creole to better facilitate outreach to the Latin and Haitian immigrant communities. The team promoted the survey through the Village website, newsletter, social media channels, flyers, and posters. Survey kiosks were set up in heavily trafficked public spaces like the Library and City hall, allowing residents to take the survey digitally or via paper. Finally, 2,000 copies of the survey were printed and distributed to the local schools for the children to take home and fill out with their families.
The team attended multiple community events to talk with the public, including the Christmas Tree Lighting, Menorah Celebration and the Fall Festival where the team hosted a carnival booth to gather input from children and parents. The team contacted local HOAs and apartment complexes to boost participation from residents in multi-family neighborhoods. Local churches were also contacted to get the word out to their congregations.
WGI worked closely with the Hispanic Resource Council to maximize participation from the local Hispanic community. This working relationship included stakeholder interviews with Council leadership, interviews at the pick-up/drop-off line for afterschool programs, and attending parent conferences at the Center.
