Park Place is a 5-story, 555,704 square-foot wood-framed mixed-use structure with 267 residential units, retail space, and restaurant space. The construction type is Type 3A. The parking garage is precast concrete with 373 spaces. There is a 2-story amenity building on top of precast garage.
This project is located in a high seismic region. Structural steel beams supporting wood shear walls had to be specifically designed for increased forces due to this seismic region. Also, WGI had to design cast-in-place concrete walls and beams to support the precast wall panels in the garage. These concrete elements also had to be designed explicitly for increased forces due to the seismic region.
We designed a structural steel beam and precast plank podium to support a portion of the 5-story wood-framed structure. The sloping site led to deep foundation elements to maintain the frost depth required per the geotechnical report. Discontinuities in the lateral force-resisting system resulted in a more stringent design of the supporting elements due to the seismic region. We designed the structural steel connections for the project. We used a rammed-aggregate pier foundation system to support the concrete footings.
