SR 842/Las Olas Boulevard is a 4-lane, east-west, urban, arterial roadway that provides access to downtown Fort Lauderdale to the west and the beaches to the east. WGI was contracted by the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) District 4 to provide design plans and specifications to address ride and pavement deficiencies, pavement repairs, underground utility and drainage adjustments, American Disability Act (ADA), and pedestrian issues along the right-of-way corridor.
Services included reviewing FDOT pavement evaluation reports and geotechnical reports in determining the best design and construction methods to utilize to correct both the ride and pavement deficiencies. The design included the milling and resurfacing of the entire roadway surface to address these deficiencies. Within several areas of the roadway, muck and unsuitable soils were discovered, which necessitated the incorporation of a full-depth asphalt replacement design.
Additional services WGI provided were pavement and marking plans, maintenance of traffic plans, cost estimates, ADA ramp and pedestrian access modifications, drainage improvements, video inspections, bidding assistance, and post-design construction services.
