Palm Beach County requested a structural assessment of the discharge manifold pipe at Water Treatment Plant 8. The piping was suspected of having corrosion along its length and at the pipe joints. Additionally, WGI’s Structures Systems Division Team assessed the condition of the vault walls and pipe supports. The 30-inch pipe was located in an under-floor vault in the main pump room at the plant. A field assessment was completed within the confined space, and recommendations were given for the rehabilitation of the pipe and vault. The recommendations included specifications for media blasting and coating of the pipe and repairing the pipe support pedestals. The field assessment and report recommendations were completed in 72 hours.
