On April 23, 2024, Pinellas County buzzed with excitement as local leaders, community members, and project partners gathered to celebrate the groundbreaking of the Bayou Court Apartments, a new affordable housing development in St. Petersburg, FL.
WGI is proud to play a key role in this transformative project, reinforcing our commitment to creating equitable, sustainable communities.
The ceremonial groundbreaking was attended by key figures such as St. Petersburg Mayor Ken Welch, Pinellas County Commissioner Rene Flowers, and St. Petersburg City Council members Deborah Figgs-Sanders and Gina Driscoll, with their presence underscoring the importance of the Bayou Court Apartments project in the broader context of community development and support.
Commissioner Rene Flowers highlighted the significance of this partnership in addressing the housing crisis, stating:
“The future is made great when the County and surrounding municipalities combine their resources to work towards a common solution: safe, clean, and affordable housing for our residents.”
The three-story, garden-style apartment buildings will offer a total of 60 two-bedroom units strategically designed to cater to a diverse range of income levels. With 12 units for households earning below 50% of the AMI, nine at 80%, 15 at 100%, and 24 workforce units at 120%, Bayou Court is set to provide much-needed relief to residents facing housing insecurity.
The Bayou Court Apartments are more than just another project; they stand as a testament to the successful collaboration between the County, the City of St. Petersburg, and private developers to address the housing crisis in Pinellas County.
Gravel Road Partners, a Washington D.C.-based developer, led the acquisition of the property and assembled a dedicated development team, which included WGI’s esteemed Structural Engineering team, St. Pete-based Place Architecture, Park & Eleazer Construction, and Osborn Civil Engineering.
