WGI was honored to participate in the recent groundbreaking ceremony for BillionToOne’s new state-of-the-art life sciences facility in Austin, Texas.
The event signified a pivotal moment in the advancement of molecular diagnostics and underscores our commitment to contributing to the region’s burgeoning life sciences sector.
Developer Tarlton Properties, alongside BillionToOne, is setting the stage for a new life sciences campus in Northeast Austin. Spanning approximately 220,000 square feet, the campus aims to revolutionize medical diagnostic testing.
With the opening of this campus, the Austin area is expected to see the creation of approximately 1,000 jobs, ranging from lab technicians to post-doctoral researchers. This expansion not only strengthens Austin’s position as a hub for innovation but also reinforces the region’s growing reputation in the life sciences sector, home to over 300 companies dedicated to advancing health care.
BillionToOne, is a life sciences company based in California, and specializing in molecular diagnostics. With a mission to enhance the accuracy and accessibility of medical testing, they develop advanced DNA-based tests that significantly improve diagnostic capabilities, particularly in the fields of prenatal and oncology care.
BillionToOne’s CEO, Oguzhan Atay, expressed the excitement surrounding this expansion by stating:
“Austin’s vibrant culture and high concentration of exceptional STEM graduates from its nearby universities make it the ideal location for our expansion.” – “We’re excited to continue our mission of transforming molecular diagnostics—making them more powerful, accurate, efficient, and accessible—from our state-of-the-art Austin laboratory, which will have a capacity of processing up to 6 million high-complexity molecular diagnostics tests every year.”
As it expands into Austin, BillionToOne is poised to play a crucial role in the growing life sciences ecosystem, contributing to the development of groundbreaking solutions that will impact patient care and outcomes for years to come.
At WGI, we recognize the immense significance of this project, not just for the immediate community but for the entire life sciences industry.
Our team is proud to offer our nationally recognized Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) services to this state-of-the-art facility, ensuring that the facility meets the highest standards of excellence. WGI’s MEP Senior Client Manager, Andrew Miller, expressed his excitement about the opportunity by stating:
