  • Conduct workflow processes with a methodological approach based on Geographic Information System (GIS), CAD, and remote sensing technology. This may include the pre-processing of imagery, digitizing vector features, performing LiDAR classification, extraction of features from LiDAR, and assisting with metadata and project reporting.
  • Serve as a technical specialist, providing advice on geospatial standards, product generation, and geodatabase management.
  • BA/BS in Geography or related earth sciences field (additional experience may be substituted for education) is preferred.
  • 0-2 years (3-5 if not degreed) of increasing technical knowledge in GIS, LiDAR, photogrammetry, Remote sensing, or surveying is preferred.
  • Experience with ESRI is required.
  • Candidates with experience in GeoCue, TerraScan, LP360, or TopoDOT will be given higher consideration.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills are required.
  • Candidates should have a demonstrated ability to work both independently and in a team environment to execute geospatial workflows.

In this position, you will manage transportation design projects for clients such as NCDOT and municipalities.  A strong background in NC roadway design engineering is required, as well as an understanding of and coordination with multiple other disciplines, including roadway drainage, structures, and survey to name a few.  The candidate will work in a fast-paced engineering environment where projects may be derived from many delivery methods, including conventional publicly bid projects and design-build.   

 

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and manage a staff of 2 to 6 design engineers and coordinate with various disciplines, both internal and external to WGI;
  • Manage/develop engineering designs, including geometric alignments, profiles, cross sections, construction, and maintenance of traffic details;
  • Create engineering documents, including Typical Section Packages, Pavement Design Reports, and Variation/Exception Reports;
  • Coordinate with WGI's clients and team members, prepare meeting notes, prepare invoices, and progress reports to support his or her projects;
  • Perform quality control reviews and prepare/oversee construction quantity estimates;
  • Cross-train in other transportation disciplines, including drainage, signing and pavement marking, signalization and maintenance of traffic;
  • Develop plans, calculations and specifications amongst multi-discipline engineering teams.
  • Pursue additional work from existing and new WGI clients and be responsible for meeting with clients, preparing pursuit materials and coordinating with required discipline leads.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited four-year college, Master's Degree is a strong plus;
  • Demonstrated 15+ years in progressively responsible experience;
  • NC Professional Engineering Registration;
  • Highway design lead experience preferred:
    • Project Management with NCDOT;
    • Project Management with municipalities;
    • Prior supervisory experience leading an engineering team;
    • Proficiency in Microstation/ORD
    • Experience with 3D Corridor Modeling a strong plus;
    • Ability to lead winning project pursuits including letter of interest preparation, presentation development and presentation skills (interviews, question & answer sessions, leading presentations);
    • Prepare contracts, scopes of services, fee estimates (in accordance with NCDOT standard practices and requirements);
    • Ability/desire to lead a team of engineering and marketing staff to pursue, win and design transportation-related project;
    • Ability to work independently and on large multi-discipline teams;
    • Microsoft Office skills – including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint;
    • Exceptional oral and written communication skills;
    • Travel to other office locations may be required.

  • Lead projects and pursuits related to water resource applications including but not limited to watershed modeling, watershed master planning, floodplain establishment, flood mitigation design and construction plans, stream stabilization, minimum flows and levels (MFL), and other similar work types.  Apply knowledge of the permit and approval requirements of FEMA, FDEP, the State’s Water Management Districts and local governments.
  • Provide support for services provided by Streamline Technologies, a wholly owned subsidiary of WGI, including development of watershed models and coastal fringe models. 
  • Provide mentoring and quality control support for a wide range of transportation related drainage tasks including storm sewer collection systems, cross drain & bridge hydraulics analysis, open drainage conveyance systems, floodplain impact and mitigation analysis, stormwater management facility designs, and sediment & erosion control best management practices
  • Ensure the submission of deliverables including but not limited to technical reports, calculations, construction plans, and specifications in accordance with a project scope, schedule, cost, and quality requirements.
  • Develop and mentor staff to create a hydrology & hydraulics team that may perform on water resource specific contracts and support other WGI divisions including transportation and civil.
  • Participate in business development activities such as proposal responses, client meetings, scopes/estimates, and business planning activities.
  • Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an accredited four-year college.
  • Florida Professional Engineer license (PE) or the ability to obtain Florida Licensing within 6 months of employment.
  • Strong background using hydrologic and hydraulic modeling and design software such as Microstation/GeoPak/OpenRoads, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, HEC-2, TR-55, StormCAD, SWMM, SRH-2D, etc.
